Engraving

This is one area I am very interested in gaining more knowledge and experience. My first ones could only be called etchings or scrimshaw. As I did more internet research on Banjo engraving history, it didn’t take long to run across the work of Icillo Consolvi. I’ve started digging into Scroll design with “American Scrollwork”…really catching my eye.  I understand a lot of the production banjo engraving is done by CNC engravers, but there’s something special about hand-cut engraving. I hope to eventually be able to cut rope borders and scrolls on the rim skirts, tension hoops and flanges.

I was fortunate to be taught some wire inlay work of which I am also practicing on my granddaughter’s Christmas presents.
